Mel Street- The Moonshine Man (Upland; 1965)
Most fans of Mel Street don't know that he began recording music way before his breakout hit, "Borrowed Angel" came about in early 1972, a song he had recorded two years earlier for the Tandem label. Inlate 1964/early 1965, while working on his own TV show in Bluefield, West Virginia, Mel was approached by station owner Ralph Carter with a proposal to make some recordings for his new Upland record label. The relationship resulted in Mel making six recordings over a 3-4 year span, with this one being his first, b/w a Ralph Carter original "She Doesn't Wear My Ring". Enjoy!

Buck Owens-Country Girl (original undubbed demo; 1956)
Переглядів 3,3 тис.5 років тому
Around 1960, a woman named Virginia Richmond, who owned a record label called Chesterfield, somehow managed to get a hold of some demos that Country singer Buck Ownes made for the Bakersfield label Pep Records in 1956, to decide what he should record at his first session for them. Miss Richmond made the claim on the back of this album (LaBrea 8017) that Buck recorded the songs listed for her, w...
George Jones - Battle of Love
Переглядів 2,8 тис.8 років тому
Placed on the B-Side to his #1 hit, "Tender Years", and later used on the Mercury album, "The Novelty Side of George Jones", this rarely heard gem from one of The Possum's last sessions for Mercury Records deserves much better exposure. Enjoy!
George Jones - My Sweet Imogene (Unissued in North America)
Переглядів 7 тис.9 років тому
This is a very rare track from George Jones' Starday Records sessions, dated around 1955 or 1956. It has only been issued by a compilation label in Great Britain called Ace, and the two albums they issued this gem on are currently out of print. Enjoy!
Mel Tillis (w/ Bill Phillips) - Georgia Town Blues
Переглядів 2,7 тис.10 років тому
Enjoy this early Mel Tillis single from 1961. Mel is accompanied by a then-fledgling singer, Bill Phillips, who is best known for his duet with Dolly Parton ("Put It Off Until Tomorrow"), and "You've Still Got A Place in My Heart".
Hank Williams - Help Me Understand (Rare "Luke The Drifter" Demo)
Переглядів 235 тис.10 років тому
Here is something you don't hear everyday: a home recording of Luke The Drifter. Yes, this is a very rare demo of Hank test running one of the earliest songs he chose to record under his moralistic alter-ego. Enjoy this rare gem, as there is an additional verse, and chorus, Hank left out of the studio recording.
Buzz Busby - Me And The Jukebox
Переглядів 2,3 тис.10 років тому
Born Bernarr Busbicve, Buzz Busby is the person responsible for the development of the Bluegrass music scene in Washington, D.C, during the mid- 1950's. He started his band, The Bayou Boys, while working for the FBI (yes, the Federal Bureau of Investigations), which included the likes of Charlie Waller & Bill Emerson (founding members of The County Gentlemen), and Scotty Stoneman, of the famous...
Loretta Lynn - Blue Steel
Переглядів 4,1 тис.10 років тому
As every Loretta fan knows, she received her first hit in 1960, with the song, "I'm A Honky- Tonk Girl" (#14), on the Zero label. She remained with the Vancouver, British Columbia studio for another year and a half, recording ten more songs, and only releasing only two more singles from them. This song was not used for any of them, even though it could have provided Loretta her second big hit. ...

George Jones - If You Were Mine (Previously Unissued)
Переглядів 17 тис.10 років тому
Issued earlier this year, from the Gusto label vaults, this rare gem from George was recorded at his first session for Starday Records, dated January 6, 1954. Along with this track, three more songs were recorded: "No Money In This Deal" (Starday 130-A), "You're In My Heart" (Starday 130-B), and a song called "For Sale Or Lease", which remained unissued until Time-Life issued a CD, "Early Hits:...
David "Stringbean" Akeman - Run Rabbit Run
Переглядів 90 тис.10 років тому
Dave Akeman is among the best banjo players to ever live. He was a master of Claw-Hammer, Two-Finger, and Three-Finger picking. Even though he recorded with Bill Monroe in the 40's, and had been a member of the Grand Ole Opry for nearly 20 years at the time, "Stringbean" never made his own recordings until signing with Starday Records in 1960, and then only made three albums of songs, one of wh...
The Country Cousins - You Don't Even Care (Anymore)
Переглядів 1,1 тис.10 років тому
In the time that the Country Cousins were together, my Uncle Jimmy wrote a few songs of his own, but the original lyrics have since been lost. However, The Country Cousins did manage to record one of those songs, but only the last verse and chorus is remaining. I have edited the song to make it feel more like a complete recording, and hope that everyone enjoys it.
Jimmy Grubbs & His Music Makers - Let's Rock To-Night
Переглядів 1,1 тис.10 років тому
I was extremely lucky to run across an original 1958 copy of this hot record recently (only paid $.25 for it). Jimmy Grubbs was a North Carolinian who came to Louisville, Kentucky (my home state), in 1958, to visit a sibling. They managed to get him a contract with a small label (Mack Records), and the result was this single, and an acetate that hasn't been issued here in the United States, but...
